ABOUT SUNDOG VALLEY FARMS

Who We Are

Family, community, and the enivornment are at the heart of Sundog Valley Farms's mission and values.

Early in 2021, Janis and Daniel decided they wanted to move somewhere with more land to create more self-sufficiency for their family. At the same time, Janis's parents, Mary and Bob, were looking for more property with darker skies for astronomy than their home in Portland had to offer. Working together, they decided to create a multigenerational family home southwest of Eugene that offered everyone what they wanted.

Along with their two kids, Janis and Daniel run the farming side of the homestead. By spring of 2022, they had a dozen chickens, a high-tunnel full of seedlings, a young orchard, a pasture and barn for goats, and an extensive herb garden. Their plans for the future include pigs, cows, and several more high-tunnels.

Though the farm isn't certified as organic, Sundog Valley Farms is focused on sustainability and environmental friendliness. Pesticides and herbicides are avoided whenever possible, captured rainwater is used for animals and plants, and the vast majority of the home and farm's electricity comes from solar power.

In addition to their commitment to the environment, those of us at Sundog Valley Farms feel a sense of responsibility to our community. We pledge to donate a fruit or vegetable to the food bank for every fruit or vegetable sold. We believe that no one should go hungry, and everyone should have access to healthy, affordable food.
